Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
